Is CrossFit right for me?2021-03-30T14:55:33+02:00

CrossFit is great for everybody. If you are looking to get in better shape, this is the perfect place for you. If you have specific goals, such as endurance, speed, power, or strength, CrossFit is also a great fit and can be used to help you reach your goals faster. For athletes, CrossFit is the best strength & conditioning solution out there – we can help you become stronger, more powerful, agile and explosive while decreasing your injury risk and improving your side-to-side balance.

Do I need to get in shape before I start CrossFit?2021-03-30T14:55:33+02:00

No! CrossFit is infinitely scalable – meaning we can use the same workout framework for a rank novice or beginner that is very out of shape as we can for the elite athlete. Your expert coach will make some adjustments specific to your fitness level so you get the most out of your workouts from day 1. This might mean lowering the weight, changing the number of repetitions you do, modifying the exercise to something more manageable which still targets the same area of the body, or limiting your range of motion to what is safe for you at this point in your progression.

But everyone is so fit already, it’s intimidating!2021-03-30T14:55:33+02:00

Everyone has to start somewhere. Some people may look very fit but everyone shares a common bond – we are all interested in improving. When stepping through our door, you will find yourself surrounded by supportive and friendly people. You may see Crossfitters in the media who look exceptionally fit, recognize they are not the average. The gym is filled with a wide variety of people from young to quite old, deconditioned to fit, experienced to brand new.

Am I going to get bulky, huge or look too big?2021-03-30T14:55:33+02:00

Not likely, unless that is your goal. Building muscle is important for fitness but given normal protocols CrossFit will not make you big or bulky. Most CrossFitters are actually quite lean. More muscle helps you burn more calories, become more resilient, and look better naked.

I heard CrossFit is Dangerous, will I get hurt?2021-03-30T14:55:33+02:00

Everything you do worth doing is “dangerous” to some degree – but in comparison to other strength & conditioning programs CrossFit is no more or less dangerous. Studies of injury rates have actually shown that injuries are more common in repetitive motion fitness programs (i.e. running only) in comparison to CrossFit. The injury rate for team sports is significantly higher.

Injuries happen in strength sports because the athlete worries more about milestones (such as weight) than their technique or ability is prepared for. They push themselves too hard or cannot yet perform the movement properly. That is why we have coaches that will be actively helping you scale workouts appropriate to your fitness level, strength, and mobility limitations.

Science aside, CrossFit, and our gym in particular, is concerned with technique first and foremost, followed by the consistent use of that technique, long before we increase load (weight) or intensity (speed).

How are monthly payments done?2021-03-30T14:56:02+02:00

Our monthly plans do not require a credit card. A bankaccount number (IBAN) will do fine for us to access as we use recurring automatic payments. To purchase snacks and beverages or other merchandise items we accept cash and debit.

Do you give discounts for Police/Fire/Military/Teachers/Students?2021-03-30T14:56:22+02:00

At CrossFit Scheveningen we don’t believe in assigning discounts to people arbitrarily based on their chosen occupation, relationship status, or any other biographical data. We believe everyone should receive the exact same quality service for the same price. Our only discount structure is our commitment length.

Can I also put my membership on pause for vacation or other circumstances?2021-03-30T14:56:42+02:00

Unlike the big fitness centres we are a relative small sports community that fully depends on your support throughout the year. We do not serve the option to pause a membership in any case.

What if I need to cancel?2021-03-30T14:57:01+02:00

Let us know by E-mail at least 1 month before the end of your contract that you like to cancel your membership. There are no complicated fees, penalties, or clauses to allow you out.

If I stay after 3/6/12 months what happens?2021-03-30T14:57:22+02:00

Your account will continue to be billed (until you cancel your membership) at the same price you are currently paying. In a 3/6/12 month membership the minimum number of payments are 3/6/12, but the maximum is indefinite, so you will be able to continue on as a member grandfathered into the membership price you currently have forever unless you cancel your membership.

If I cancel after 6+ or 12+ months what happens?2021-03-30T14:58:02+02:00

Simply pay the difference between the level you signed up for and the next tier down by multiplying what you saved per month by the number of months you saved it for and that’s it. Talk to a staff member to find out more.

I had to change my life

After dealing with some serious health issues, I realised that I had to change my life. So, september 2018 I made one of the best decisions in my life: I started doing CrossFit at CrossFit Scheveningen.

I go to the box 3 times a week. Being part of the strong community of this box, makes me feel happy and at home. But more importantly, the coaches challenge me to keep on striving to get better each workout. This has a hugely positive effect on my physical health, but also made me stronger mentally. Now I know, I can take up so many more challenges than I ever could imagine.

What CrossFit gave me

I joined CrossFit Scheveningen a year and a half ago on 20th August. I was on the road towards finding “new me” after significant changes in life which was happening at that time.

Here is what CrossFit gave me:

– Incredible sense of community with great like-minded people which I never experienced before at any other gym;
– Great athletes to follow and align with, new friends;
– Understanding that obstacles and limits it’s something that we build in our minds;
– Motivation to keep going, get better and to make right decisions;
– Sense of satisfaction and empowerment;
– The joy after you manage to do your first RX, unbroken set of double unders, pull-ups and other things you never thought you’d be able to do;
– Great memories – I will always remember my first “Murph”;
– And the list can go on-and-on…

Here is what I’ve lost because of CrossFit:
– 25-ish kilos :)))

CrossFit as a road which I encourage to try and follow.
Special thanks to Sami who dragged me to the Box for the first time.

Kind regards,

Donatas

Rehabilitation broken collarbone

At the end of May 2020, I broke my collarbone while skateboarding. As an avid surfer it was a big scare. How will the recovery go? Can I get back in the waves again?

After five weeks of rest and light exercises to prevent a frozen shoulder, my doctor and physiotherapist gave me the green light for more challenging exercises.
My shoulder mobility at that time was minimal. Putting on a T-shirt on my own, for example, didn’t work.

Time to start practicing more intensively. CrossFit Scheveningen, where I started in the spring of 2019, was a logical place for me to recover.
The atmosphere in the box motivates and disciplines.
With one of the coaches I worked on increasing my shoulder mobility, muscle strength and endurance.
I was offered customization and was challenged in a safe way to push my limits. It also gave a concrete interpretation for practicing during the open gyms.
With a high return as a result; every day I noticed an improvement in the range of movement of my arm and I could handle more and more in strength, as a result of which my self-confidence grew.
Three months after my fracture I had my first surf session. With enough paddle power and without pain I took my first waves.
The smile on my face was unstoppable. Also, in France a week later – in more challenging conditions – it felt like old times.
My shoulder feels even better than before the fracture, more flexible due to the mobility exercises I still do every day.
The speed of recovery has surprised me and without CrossFit Scheveningen I would not have achieved this result.
