Humble. Hungry. Happy.

Sports and sports competitions have always played an essential role in my life, from horseback riding, skiing, and snowboarding to surfing and sailing. After our world trip, we discovered CrossFit in 2010, which eventually led to a complete career switch and a deeper exploration of my passion for nutrition.

I immersed myself and my family in CrossFit-related lifestyles such as the Paleo and Zone diets and completed several courses. Since 2015, I’ve been guiding athletes at CrossFit Scheveningen with personalized nutritional advice. In 2022, I completed my study as a nutritionist.

“Dial in your nutrition. Fuel your potential.”

Head Coach

Matt Bellet

Coach Matt has been teaching and studying movement since 2003, beginning with Fencing and Martial Arts. He began his CrossFit journey in 2012 thanks to a longtime friend.

Judging local and international events was his first step to becoming more than just an athlete. In 2016, Matt earned his L1 and began coaching CrossFit. His commitment to development and education was recognized as he earned an L3 Trainer designation in 2025.

Matt is the Head Coach at CFS, responsible for leading/developing the coaching team and training oversight. He helps guarantee a welcoming environment for athletes of all backgrounds and identities. He is available for 1-1 consultations to address specialized training needs and injury recovery/prevention.

When he can find time to step away from the world of fitness he can be found playing video games, reading on the beach, or walking his very demanding cat.

Athlete's stories

"I feel strong, fit, and full of life''

Five years ago, my son Johann encouraged me to try something I never imagined doing at 58: CrossFit. I walked into CrossFit Scheveningen a bit unsure, but I quickly found not just a training program, but a vibrant, welcoming community. The coaches are attentive, motivating, and genuinely care. The workouts are challenging–and that’s what makes them so rewarding. But beyond the physical gains, it’s the joy of movement, the laughter between sets, and the friendships forged that keep me coming back. At 63, I feel strong, fit, and full of life. It’s one of the best gifts Johann ever gave me.

"CrossFit Scheveningen changed how we view fitness and we love it."

Back in 2021, my wife Mayte and I wanted to try something new together. Though we were both active–football, tennis, running–we never were attracted by the gym and the weights… we always found it boring. Through friends, we heard about CrossFit and decided to give it a try by joining CrossFit Scheveningen. After our first session, we could barely lift our arms to brush our teeth, but we have to say it: it felt amazing! We had the satisfaction of knowing that we truly worked out, and from then on, we kept coming back.

What keeps us coming back after more than five years is that we never feel bored; the mix of weightlifting, cardio, gymnastics, it’s so dynamic and fun that the hour just flies by, there are hundreds of combinations that we rarely repeat routines.

Despite being over 50, we feel stronger, more energetic, and still excited to train, we learned that CrossFit is for all ages and fitness levels. The knowledgeable coaches guide the athletes to enjoy their time according to their capacities, while applying the right techniques. We must confess that sometimes we’re tired or not in the mood to attend, but we always leave feeling better.

"CrossFit is for everyone"

I first read about CrossFit in 2018 and decided to try a trial class. I was hooked immediately. Since then, I’ve been training four times a week at CrossFit Scheveningen–my second home. I always feel welcome, seen, and challenged here. The workouts are never boring, and even on tough days, I can scale the workout and still leave feeling accomplished. The coaches are skilled, enthusiastic, and motivate me every session to improve my technique and effort. Their personal attention and humor create a great atmosphere in the box.

I never thought I’d be someone who gets up at 6 a.m. multiple times a week for a workout–I didn’t consider myself fit enough. But CrossFit has taught me not to chase perfection, but to focus on progress. It helps me stay strong, both physically and mentally. I’ve even passed on the CrossFit bug to my two daughters; together we’re part of this amazing community.

My advice: don’t wait until you feel fit enough. Just start. CrossFit is truly for everyone–young or old, experienced or not. The CrossFit Scheveningen community is ready to welcome and support you.

"Every workout is a challenge, but also a celebration"

When I started at CrossFit Scheveningen in September 2024, I really had to step out of my comfort zone. Everything was new, and I had to get used to terms like WOD, metcon, AMRAP, EMOM, clean, snatch, toes to bar, etc. I absolutely love the mix between conditioning and strength. Every week you go crisscross through all sorts of exercises, and suddenly I understood the term ‘CrossFit’ haha.

From day one, I felt the positive and energetic vibe. The coaches and the people around you are incredibly motivating, and you get to know each other quickly. You have to do it yourself, but pushing to the limit together makes it so much more fun for me. After a few weeks, I already noticed a difference. I started feeling fitter and stronger, and thanks in part to the many protein shakes from my oh-so-sweet wife Paula, I lost 12 kg–going from 95 kg to 83 kg (!)

Every workout is a challenge, but also a celebration. You sweat, rip off your shirt, and keep pushing your limits. I can recommend CrossFit Scheveningen to anyone who truly wants to change.
